Plastic Surgery Research Fellowship
Our Plastic Surgery Research Laboratories at the University of Louisville employ 3 full time physician/scientists and 3-5 full-time fellows who apply knowledge and tools from different basic science disciplines to the development of new Reconstructive treatments.
Most of our Research Fellows are postgraduates in different stages of their surgical training who are interested in pursuing careers in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. During their 1-3 year fellowship with us our fellows are exposed to all aspects of research including: identification of a clinical problem, development of experimental protocols and animal
models to study given problems, running experiments, collecting/organizing/statistically evaluating/interpreting data, writing and submitting abstracts to and presenting findings at national/international scientific meetings and finally summarizing their entire research experience by writing their work up in manuscripts/grant proposals for submission to peer review scientific
journals/funding agencies. Having been exposed to all these aspects of research, we feel our fellows leave us with a well-rounded base upon which to build solid academic careers in Plastic Surgery.
Our fellows accomplish the above by maintaining a close interaction between full time clinical and basic science faculty at our medical school, in our sister laboratories around the world and with other Research Fellows at our institution. In addition to running their respective research projects, fellows attend weekly research meetings focused on writing
scientific manuscripts/grants and making presentations and they attend regular basic science and clinical seminars.
We always have room in our laboratory for excellent, hard working research fellows who are eager to learn. If you are interested in joining our program, we feel that it is best, before making any commitments, that you come and visit our institution so that you can see our program first hand and we can meet you personally.
To make arrangements for such a meeting or if you have further questions regarding our program, please email Dr. Barker (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Dr. Maldonado (email@example.com). Finally, we thank you for your interest in our Plastic Surgery Research program.
